Kennel Profile

My love of Afghans goes back to my early teenage years. I bought my first afghan, an
exotic black and tan, the same year I met my husband Kerry, in 1973. I soon won a
Baby in Show and was hooked. My early show career was short, due to part time
studying and the limitation on the number of dogs we could have in the city. We then
moved to a 10 acre property and began our own breeding program and started showing again.

We have been very fortunate to have a clear vision of what we thought an afghan
should be and decided very early on that we would not just use the 'big winner' of the
time but instead amalgamate a number of afghan lines we admired to head towards our
goal. We are now at the stage where we can go back into our own lines to consolidate the unique beauty and function of our breed. We are very proud that people can now look at a dog and say "that's a Suliman" and be right.

The turning point for our kennel would have to be the acquisition of two outstanding dogs
Am/Aust Grand Champion Gengala Sharper Image, 'Kodak' and
Am/Aust Grand Ch Kashara Spoilsport of Qamari (Imp USA), 'Derby'.
Both these dogs have been outstanding producers and have brought many prestigious
wins our way, amassing 34 BIS's between them and still going.

Of special mention also is Ch Suliman Miss Giorgio and her dam Suliman Black Beauty
which have both indelibly stamped the SULIMAN  LOOK. Ch Suliman Absolute, our Miss Giorgio daughter, is the image of her dam and grand dam, and will certainly continue this   look in her babies for our future.

My other canine interests include completing my Hound Group judging license and I am
now training for the Gundog and Non Sporting groups. I have held numerous committee
positions on the AHC of SA including President and also have been a committee
member of an All Breeds Club for several years. Last year I was invited to be a member
of the SA Canine Associations Disciplinary Panel which I was very honored to accept.

I would like to dedicate this website to my very supportive family and close friend, Annette. To  my husband, who has joined me through all the highs and lows of dog showing, the thrill of wins  and the sadness of old afghans passing. To my never tiring mother, Val Kelly, who helps me at most shows and dog-sits when Kerry and I are away for work, holidays or showing. To my two lovely young daughters, Olivia and Rachel, who have helped me whelp puppies in the middle of the night, fed and picked up after the dogs and now starting to handle in the show ring. Thanks also must go to my very special & loyal friend Annette Farrell who used to show Rhodesian Ridgebacks and  now  has two afghans of her own and another in partnership with us.
